The seventh continent

Antarctica, november 2007

In February, I will be traveling to Antarctica, a place I have wanted to go for years. I am out-of-my-mind excited about this trip, to a place like no other.

In the months since we started planning, I have loved reading other people’s detailed trip reports from Antarctica, so I wanted a place where I could detail my own trip for future travelers to find. I’ve created a separate blog for it where I will be updating on our planning and eventually on the trip itself. I would love for you to follow along if you are interested. THERE WILL BE PENGUINS.

Check it out.

Some photos from a couple weeks ago when my friend Blonnie and I were in Manhattan for a day. She’s a photographer, too, so mostly what happens is we walk around and take lots of pictures of each other. All the photos of me in this post are hers.

We had drinks at Campbell Apartment, dinner at Tia Pol, and after-dinner cocktails at Little Branch.

Our last trip of the summer was a few days in Seattle and then on San Juan Island. Totally loved the island, even in all the mist and fog.

All I have to say about Rio is that it was totally amazing. What a beautiful city. Mountains and ocean and city all joined together. These photos make me want to be back on that rooftop deck drinking caipirinhas.

I traveled to Brazil in July…we started in Sao Paulo, plus a town on the coast about an hour from there. We were there during the end of the World Cup but we did not go to any of the matches. We ate at some amazing restaurants, had our bank card cloned after the very first ATM we used it in, and bought a lot of flip flops.
