why am I awake?

I am a last-minute packer. I always do this to myself…I am getting on a plane in like 7 hours and I am just now finishing packing. I don’t know why I wait until the last second, but I do. It’s like I am just incapable of gathering together the right items before it’s absolutely necessary. (And who’s idea was it to book a 6am flight with a 2-year-old??? Not mine.)

I’ll be mostly offline for the next few days but I’ll return emails when I get back. Until then, here’s Lyle sharing his strawberry muffin with the world. (He has a muffin and a bagel BOTH, because that’s how he likes it.)

favorite place

Anyone who has known me for any length of time knows what my favorite place is: Colorado. And while I don’t live there right now, I still visit regularly, and I’m planning to increase the length of my visits in the coming years. I have been spending too much time away from the place where I really feel at home.

I don’t have details worked out yet, but I do plan to be in Boulder for part or all of June and/or July this summer. I am really looking forward to getting in a lot of hiking and biking and playing in the amazing Colorado outdoors. I’ll also be booking photo sessions there during that time. I’ll put up more details when I have them worked out.

And I will be posting here more. I mean it. :)

scott & ashley

My brother and his girlfriend were in Houston over New Year’s, visiting from San Francisco, and while they were here they asked me to take some pictures of the two of them. We shot these on New Year’s Eve, about an hour before sunset, in Rice Village, a little shopping area next to Rice. I don’t usually photograph adults, and in some ways I find it harder than shooting kids because it can be harder to get them to relax and act natural and not look too stiff. (Hard for me, anyway–this is the area I most want to work on–making people feel relaxed in front of the camera so we can get photos that really show their personalities.) But in other ways, wow…people who do exactly what you ask! They move where you want them; they stay still when you want them to! It was a nice change of pace from chasing kids around. :)
