more visitors

We had more visitors this week. It’s funny…after living in places that I consider way more exciting to visit, I thought no one would want to visit us in Houston. But people have been coming anyway. So I guess I owe the city of Houston an apology for assuming that it was so unexciting that everyone would stay away. It also helps that we have an entire guest room now and we no longer have to make our friends and family sleep on the couch or floor, which is where they’ve been sleeping when they visited for the past 8 years.

This week it was Jeff’s cousin and his wife and son who came to visit from Colorado. They nearly ended up living here themselves a few years ago–Josh is a pilot and he had just gotten hired at Continental (which is based here) when September 11 happened, and they laid him off before he even started. So they stayed in Colorado after all.

While they were here, we took the kids to a mall with an two-story indoor carousel, which was a little bit scary to them at first but in the end they both liked it.

And we also did a lot of hanging out at the house, playing fun games like rock-Josh-in-the-recliner.

On second thought, you can totally see why people keep coming to visit us, yes?

last boulder session

This is the third (and final) session I shot in Boulder over Christmas. These girls are so stinkin’ pretty. They were really into the whole photo session, too. They made up poses to do–like, “Us pretending to be asleep!” and “Being baby seals!” Here are some of my favorites. Especially this first one. This one should be HUGE on their walls, don’t you think????

another boulder session

Here’s another family I photographed in Boulder. I hate admitting that I had a hard time with photos. But I did have a hard time with these two kids. Not the kids’ faults, just their ages (4 and 2), which didn’t lend themselves to, say, sitting in one spot for pictures. I spent too long trying to get pics in a setting that I knew wasn’t working, and I should have stopped and figured out something else sooner. After we moved into a different spot, I got some better shots. And I still managed to get several that I really like. :)

And the last one–creepy or funny? It’s the first time the Virgin Mary has ever been in one of my photographs.

little doll

I managed to fit in some time to do a couple photo sessions in Boulder while I was up there over Christmas. Unlike San Diego and Houston, the weather there is NOT reliably warm all winter (which is, of course, one of the reasons I love it so much there–I love winter!), so I could not assume ahead of time that we could do outdoor sessions on a certain day. I scheduled them fairly last-minute so we could hopefully rely on the weather forecast, and we lucked out with weather in the upper 30s/low 40s–plenty warm to shoot outside. (I know–the Houston and SD people reading this are all going, “WHAT?” But this is Boulder, remember.)

My first session was with this almost-two-year-old. (I did these just a week before her birthday.) Her mom is also a photographer, so I was especially honored that they asked me to do these photos.

family session

I’m late in posting these…here are a few of my favorites from a family session I did back in early December here in Houston. They all seem to have a lot of fun together, which I think shows in these photos.

I know I did this one with the last family I posted, too, but I thought it was a fun shot, so I did it again.
